Honolulu, Hawai‘i, Decmeber 30, 2005...Black Hawaiian Records is pleased to announce the release of "JAZZ ISLAND", the long awaitaed solo jazz project by GINAI, featuring the Honolulu Jazz Quartet (HJQ). Flashback to 2000, when the Hawaiian Swing band, Hula Joe and the Hutjumpers, featuring GINAI as "Gin Rummy" won a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Jazz Album of the Year. Next, she made waves opening for Bruce Hornsby and the Range and Lou Rawls as the Waikiki Shell. She was the featured vocalist with Matt Catlingub's Big Kahuna and the Copa Cat Pack for one summer, which lead to a spot in the Honolulu Symphony Pops, opening for Diana Krall. Performed by Auntie Ida Keli'i Chun

Honolulu, Hawai‘i, Decmeber 29, 2005... Hula Records is pleased to introduce a new generation of Hawaiian music fans to the voice of Auntie Ida Keli'i Chun - an artist well known to long time residents of our state.  The latter will recall the lu'au favorites, hula standards and beautiful ballads sung by the songbird who first recorded "Ahulili" and sang with the likes of Joe Kahaulelio, George Naope and Lei Collins; toured Canada and the U.S. with Ray Kinney in the '50's; and later played for Maiki Aiu Lake's noted halau.  The former will be struck by the sweet voice of this lovely lady who has entertained audiences for nearly six decades.  They will come to know the songs popularized by Auntie, composed by Auntie, and even one rescued from near extinction by her timeless recording.  All will enjoy sharing Auntie's memories of old Hawai‘i.

"ALOHA FESTIVALS FALSETTO CONTEST
WINNERS VOL. 6"

Performed by 2004's Award-Winning Falsettos

Honolulu, Hawai‘i, August 2005... Hawaiian falsetto singing (leo ki'eki'e) is a musical gift to both the singer and the listener. Singers who have mastered this difficult Hawaiian art form, have mesmerized audiences worldwide. The ha'i (vocal break) heard in Hawaiian falsetto singing is intentional and related to yodeling. Where Europeans and most American singers would strive for a smooth transition between notes, Hawaiian singers use the ha'i, or split note, for emphasis or to express emotion.

2004's winners are featured on this year's compilation album: Matthew Kupuka'a from the Big Island's Clyde "Kindy" Sproat Storytelling and Falsetto Singing Contest; Lawrence Pau, from Oahu's Aloha Festivals Hawaiian Falsetto Contest; and Ruben "Kai" Ho'opi'i, from Maui's Richard Ho'opi'i Leo Ki'eki'e Contest.

"MORE AUTHENTIC ISLAND SONGS BY MAHI...HAWAII'S MOST REMARKABLE VOICE"
Performed by Mahi Beamer

Honolulu, Hawai‘i, June 30, 2005... "In response to the warm reception that greeted his first album, this new collection is designed very much along the same lines.  Again Mahi has chosen a program largely made up of songs written by his...grandmother, Helen Desha Beamer.  Hulas, chants, love songs, wedding songs - all are evocative of the rich, romantic flavor of the Islands' eternal lure..." - Honolulu Advertiser, May 6, 1962

"This reissue from the vaults of Capitol Records taps the pure and radiant voice of the indelible Mahi Beamer, whose selections here are largely from the pen of his grandmother, Helen Desha Beamer.  The tone is classic, post-statehood Hawai'i...These oldies percolate with the authentic readings fron the heart and soul of a Hawaiian who knows his stuff. - Wayne Harada, Honolulu Advertiser, July 24, 2005

"With 12 pages of annotation, including song lyrics, translations and cultural information, this re-issue is aperfect introduction to Mahi Beamer and his music." - John Berger, Honolulu Star-Bulletin, July 2, 2005

"HAWAIIAN SONGS FOR CHILDREN
(Na Mele Hawaii No Na Keiki)"
Performed by Nina, Lani & Lahela, backed by the
Maile Serenaders

Honolulu, Hawai‘i, January, 2005...Songs in the Hawaiian language for children to sing and dance were practically non-existent before Aunty Alice Namakelua and Aunty Mary Kawena Pukui (pictured on the cover) got busy. Children would be taught adult songs, more or less suitable...or English-language songs, hardly Hawaiian. Pre-discovery, only adults were trained in serious matters of chant and hula.

All that changed in 1965 when this album of 14 songs – all child-tested and approved – was released. The composers recall their
own childhood days and invite you to join in sharing that time of wonder...whether you are a child yourself, or remember being one.
