Records is proud to announce the debut release by THE KAHAUANU LAKE
SINGERS - Na Mele `Auhau (Songs of Tribute). The CD single features
two compositions by Kahauanu Lake, recipient of The Hawaii Academy
of Recording Arts' Lifetime Achievement Award: "Hole Waimea `Elua"
a hula `auana adaptation of the traditional "Hole Waimea," and "Kawena"
written for the noted conservator of Hawaiian culture, Mary Kawena Pukui.
The
Kahauanu Lake Singers' crisp delivery, tight harmonies and jazz-tinged
arrangements bring to mind the Hoku Award-winning K. Lake Trio in
their heyday when they were the "the house band" at the Royal Hawaiian
Hotel. The Kahauanu Lake Singers are under the direction of Kahauanu
Lake and Na Mele `Auhau is the latest manifestation of Mr. Lake’s
quest to perpetuate Hawaiian music and culture.
